A mutation is a change in a gene sequence
Causes:
- Chance (commonest cause)
- Carcinogenic chemicals
- UV Radiation
- Ionising radiation
Most mutations are bad for us. They can cause inherited disorders like;
- Haemophilia
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Sickle Cell anaemia
- Colour blindness
This is because the mutated genes are unable to make the correct protein
Alleles:
Different versions of the same protein are called alleles.
