Muslim attitudes to war

Although Islam is a peaceful religion, they do not believe in pacifism. Qur'an teaches sometimes war is necessary to conquer evil but once evil is defeated fighting must stop.


Pleasing Allah involves getting rid of evil and establishing peace. Jihad-struggle against evil. Greater jihad-personal battle within yourself, whether to do what is right/succumb to evil. Lesser jihad-taking militaty action to bring about a just society. Muslims should go to war if necessary and fight to preserve Islam if religion comes under attack.
