attached to skeletons by tendons
when it contracts it pulls against skeleton to make movement
cylindrical fibres are long and thin
involuntary muscles:
not under conscious control
located in blood vessels and digestive system
roles are digesting food and expelling waste
important in vascular shunting of blood to active areas
cardiac muscle
cannot be controlled
circulates blood around the body
only found in the muscle of heart
antagonistic pairs:
muscle that contracts is the agonist
muscle that relaxes is the antagonist
