Momentum:
- Momentum is a vector quantity - it has a magnitude and an associated direction.
- Momentum (kgm/s) = mass (kg) x velocity (m/s).
- For example: the momentum of a 2 kg object travelling at 3 m/s is (2 x 3) = 6 kg/ms
Conservation of momentum:
- In a closed system, the total momentum before an event = total momentum after the event.
- In a closed system, no external forces act on the components of the system.
