Momentum- COLLISIONS
momentum has a SIZE and DIRECTION
MOMENTUM IS ALWAYS CONSERVED (stays the same) PROVIDED THERE ARE NO EXTERNAL FORCES APPLIED.
Momentum is basically mass in MOTION.
MOMENTUM of MOVING OBJECT (Kg m/s) = MASS (kg) x VELOCITY (m/s)
P= M x V
where:
P= Kg, metres/second
M= mass in Kg
V= speed in m/s
eg calculate the momentum of a sprinter of mass 50Kg running at a velocity of 10m/s.
- mass= 50kg
- velocity= 10m/s
- = 50 x 10= 500 Kg m/s.
