Autotrophic- organisms build complex, organic compounds from simple, inorganic ones.

• Photoautotrophic- Light energy from the sun is absorbed by chlorophyll and used to split water into oxygen and hydrogen. Used by photosynthesising plants (and some algae and bacteria).
