The peaceful approach of the Suffragists gave everyone a more positive impression of the Suffrage movement. However, it was the violent actions of the Suffragettes that got the movement noticed by papers. Although, their violent actions overshadowed their message.

This caused the men in charge to see women as irrational and violent - and discouraged them from giving women the vote.

Both groups were forced to put their fight on hold when the First World War broke out - they took over the mens jobs. This allowed moderate Suffragists to put their point across. Women gained respect for the way they worked during the war, and so
