Minority influence refers to situations where one person/group of people influence the beliefs and behaviour of others. Minority influence is likely to lead to internalisation

Consistency: over time, the consistency in the minority's views increases interest from others. This can be consistency between people in the minority (synchronic consistency) and/or consistency over time (diachronic consistency) - such consistency makes people rethink their own views

Commitment: sometimes minorities engage in extreme activities to draw attention to their views. If these activities put the individuals at risk it demonstrates commitment to the cause and majority group members will pay more attention (augmentation principle)

Flexibility: Nemeth (1986) argued that consistency can be interpreted negatively and members of the minority need to be prepared to adapt their point of view and accept reasonable counter-arguments
