Minimalism is a style of music which originated in the west coast of america in the 1960s.

It often feautures

- layers of ostinati

- Constantly repeated patterns, which are subjected to gradual changes

- Layered textures

- Interlocking repeated phrases and rhythms

- Diatonic harmony

The combined effect can be almost hypnotic. Diatonic - using the notes which belong to the key instead of chromatic notes, which are outside of the key. Ostinati - Rhythmic, harmonic, melodic patterns, repeated many times.
