Procedure for Milgram

After the participants were selected, each participant was told that the experiement was aimed to see whether punishment effected learning. Each study involed a learner and a teacher. The participant was introduced to the actor and lots were drawn to see who would be the teacher and who would be the learner. This lot draw was rigged so that the participant was always the teacher.

Both the learner and the teacher and taken into the experimental room and the learner is strapped to the "electric chair apparatus" and the experimenter would advise both that "Although the shocks can be extremely painful, they cause no permanent tissue damage
