Interfering in Elections

  • Targeted Henry Storks in 1870 for his candidacy of Newark, succesful 
  • Also targeted HCE Childers in 1872, greatly reduced his support
  • Also supported Liberal MPS and gained them more votes
  • However it sometimes plit the Liberal vote when protestors put up their own candidates, Henry Storkes being elected for Colchester in 1870 due to a split in the liberal vote 
  • It also risked weakening the liberal party as a whole, 1874 conservatives won election due to split in the Liberal vote
