The Merchant of Venice, By William Shakespeare
The Merchant of Venice, explores love and law in which the charaters have to fight their way around. It also demonstates the amount of tension there were berween Christians and Jews in Elizabethian Venice.
CHARACTERS
Antonio - The Merchant of Venice. Antoni is a wealthy and well liked merchant. He borrows a loan of 3000 ducats for his friend Bassanio, the deal is that is Antonio cant reapy Shylock, he will get a pund of flesh cut off. He reveals his charcter mainly in generosity to his friend and in his hatred of Jews.
Shylock - A Jewish money-leander. He is Antonios enmy and has a daughter of Jessica. Throughout the play we can see his hatred of Christians and how he changes from a victim to a villian.
