Meiosis

Meiosis produces four daughter cells nuclei, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. The type of nuclear division in which the chromosome number is halved.

 

Interphase

  • the cell enlarges
  • chromosomes replicate
  • centrioles replicate

 

Prophase 1

  • chromosomes condense and align
  • portions of chromosomes are deleted and replaced - crossing over
  • nucleolus dissipates
  • centrioles migrate to opposite sides of cell
  • spindle fibre network forms
