Interphase:

  • Organelles replicated within cell
  • More ATP produced
  • DNA replicates

Prophase 1:

  • Chromosomes shorten and thicken-become visible
  • Chromosomes come together in homologous pairs to form bivalent
  • Nuclear Envelope breaks up
  • Non sister chromatids wrap around each other and attach at points called chiasmata
  • Swap sections of chromatids with one another called crossing over
  • Centrioles move to opposite poles of the cell to form spindle
