Meiosis

During sexual reproduction, two gametes combine.
Gametes only have one copy of each chromosome so when they combine, the offspring have the correct amount of chromosomes
Offspring will have a mixture of chromosomes & genes so will inherit characteristics from each parent. This is how sexual reproduction produces variation.
