The Pure Land tradition emphasises devotional and meditation practices

  • The Nembutsu: reciting the name of Amitabha is the main vehicle for expressing devotion and is recited over and over throughout the day
  • Some scholars claim the the nembutsu is a meditation method as followers acknowledge the darkness of their ignorance and call out to Amitabha to transform them with his immeasurable light
  • Through this practice, one can come to embody the dharmakaya, the ultimate reality that is beyond words
