Punishments =
- capital and corporal punishments = hanged or mutiliation
- wergild = compensation paid to victims family
- stocks and pillorys
- sanctuary = crinimal protected from law for 40 days
- benefit of clergy = clergy able to avoid punishment if able to recite psalm 15
- retribution = blood fued - family can kill someone who killed their kin
- replaced with deterrance = wergild replaced blood fued

- tithings = men over the age of 12 who would catch crinimals and enforce the law - around 10 men
- Hue and cry = if a crime has occured someone can call the H + C to alert the community
- Trial by jury = a group of men from the community who knew the accused and accuser - decide who is telling the truth
