Medical Treatments in the Middle Ages

  • Medieval physicians used a urine chart to diagnose illness. They would match a patients urine colour with a colour on their chart which would help them depict the illness and how to treat it. For example, very pale urine was a sign of too much phlegm in the body.
  • The timing of a treatment was very important in The Middle Ages as people believed that the Zodiac man revealed to humans when was an appropriate time to treat a certain section of the body. A physician would use their knowledge on astronomy to depict whether it was a good time to treat a patient. For example when the moon was not in pisces they did not believe feet should be treated.
