Lady Macbeth quotes

act 1 scene 5

she appears in the scene as ruthless, totally committed, striving for the greater glory of her husband

'fill me from the crown to the toe topfull of direst cruelty; make thick my blood'

wants to be filled with cruelty, a metaphor to stop anything from happening that may stop her from killing duncan.

'to have thee crowned with all'

its his fate to become king, she strives for her husbnd to have it all

'come you spirits'

imperative and impaitent, demanding, she is inviting evil spirits to assist her plans for duncans murder

There is an element in LM's attitude strongly reminiscent to the witches

'that i may pour my spirits in thine ear'

wants to use words to convince macbeth, tempt him into evil persuade and brainwash him to commit the acts. many believed in supernatural, king james had an interest in witches and the play was written to interest the king.
