  • Lysosomes are found in eukaryotic cells (cells with a true nucleus) and are WASTE REMOVERS.
  • Lysosomes contain hydrolytic/ digestice enzymes.
  • They are synthesisted by rough endoplasmic reticulum and transported by the golgi apparatus.
  • The synthesis of a lysosomes enzmes (proteins) are controlled by nuclear genes, if a  mutation occurs this can cause genetic diseases.
  • The enzymes found inside lysosomes means that they are able to digest unwanted material in a cell or use endocytosis to get materials inside the cell that need digesting.
  • Have a PH of 5.

Autophagy

  • Autophagy is a process which occurs in the body that deals with the destruction of cells in the body.
  • It needs a stimuli to activate it this can be things like nutrient deprivation, starvation and cellular stress.
