The word 'youth' also suggests that when she was younger, she was desireable but now that has changed, suggesting that Mr Bennett is no longer attracted to his wife, Mrs Bennett - suggesting their marriage is unhappy. This is further emphasised when Mrs Bennet's stupidity 'put an end to all real affection', suggesting that any love between them no longer exists. The phrase 'real affection' suggests that there is no longer any substantial and legitimate love in between them anymore, so they fabricate their love and are both fooling each other into believing they are still in a happy marriage.

A presents this through the character of Mr Darcy, and his initial opinion of Elizabeth. Darcy describes Elizabeth as 'tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me' This suggests that Darcy does not consider Elizabeth as a potential wife when he first saw her. The phrase 'enough to tempt me', suggests to the reader that Darcy deems himself above Elizabeth. One can also infer that Darcy is full of pride and does not think Elizabeth meets his expectations for a wife, or even an agreable woman. The word 'tolerable' paints a vivid picture of how Darcy thinks of Elizabeth, suggesting to the reader that Darcy regards Elizabth as adequate and satisfactory, but with no…
