Lorenz's Geese

  • Lorenz found that geese automatically attach to the first thing they see moving, e.g. their mother, or a dog. This is called imprinting.
  • He randomly divided a group of goose eggs into two groups. One group stayed with their mother, and the other were hatched in an incubator.
