Ralph is a civilised young boy that can be seen as attractive or intelligent. Ralph is seen as a leader, and is the one that organises the meetings and has control of the conch.
He is the protagonist in the novel. He tries to keep the boys under control and focuses on civilisation.

Piggy is one of the two boys, along with Ralph, that we first discover on the island. He is subject to much of the groups humour due to his nickname, and lack of physical ability. Despite this, his glasses prove to be key in regard to symbolism, as his glasses are what start to the fire. Piggy eventually dies and leaves Ralph in a tribe on his own.

Jack is the leader of the choirboys as we first discover when the boys arrive on the island. He is a naturally born leader and doesn’t react well to Ralph being elected over him. However, as the novel progresses, he and his choirboys, which become hunters, follow a descent into savagery…
