Both London and Checking Out Me History are expressions of the poets' frustration and anger concerning the misuse of power by those in higher authorities than the general public. In 'London', Blake uses colour and religious imagery to express his anger towards the use of power within the Church when he says 'Every black'ning Church appals'. The adjective 'black'ning' brings connotations of impurities and evil (of the Church). This is an example of Blake expressing his anger to the Church as he personally was against its' existence, as he believed that although the Church should solely exist to help the poor and disadvantaged, it failed to do so. 'Appals' is also a particularly interesting word choice here, as it could be seen as Blake suggesting that
