Localisation of function in the brain

?

Motor Centers: Motor cortex- movement is centered on the primary motor cortext of the brain which sends message to the muscles via the brain stem and spinal cord. The motor cortex is particularly important for complex movement and not basic actions such as coughing, crying or gagging. There is no relationship between the size of the area of the body and the number of neurons involved. This is due to the complexity of movement in the area dictating how many neurons are needed.

Spinal cord and brain- co-ordinate movements

premotor cortex- plans a movement prior to executing it

prefrontal cortex- stores sensory information prior to a movment and works out the probable outcome pf the movement.

Somatosensory centers:Somatosensory is referring to the sensation of the body. The somatosensory cortex lies next to the motor cortex in the brain. It perceives touch, so the amount of neuronal connextions needed dictates the amount of somatosensoru cortex needed for that area of the body. It is clear that touch sensitive areas…
