Localisation of function in the brain

?

The brain has two hemispheres which is linked together by the corpus collosum, which is a bundle of fibers which is a pathway so the two hemispheres can exchange information. The left hemisphere deals with the right side of the body and the right hemisphere deals with the left side of the body thus the brain is considered to be contralateral. This means if a person has a stroke in the motor areas of their right hemispere it will be the left-hand side of the body which is affected by the stroke. It is also the case that what you see in your right visual field is processed by your left hemisphere and although you gather auditory information from both your ears, the information from the left ear is delt with predominantly by the right hemisphere of the brain. Taste and smell are also contralateral: taste from your left side of your tongue and smells from your left nostril are processed by the right hemisphere. If the function is dealt with by one hemisphere it is said to be lateralised. so the division of functions between the two hemispheres is called hemisphereic…
