Localisation of function of the brain

  • During the 19th century, it was discovered that specific areas of the brain are associated with particular psychological functions
  • For example, in the case of HM, the hippocampus was found to be responsible for creating new memories

  • There are two sides of the brain, left and right, which are each responsible for specific functions
  • Lateralisation: the dominance of one hemisphere of the brain for particular physical and physiological functions, e.g language areas are only found on the left side of the brain
  • The left side of the brain is responsible for logic, language, analytical
