Line Spectrums

When elements are heated they emit coloured flames. Some elements emit distinctive flame colours:

For example:

  • Lithium (Li) - produces a red flame
  • Sodium (Na) - produces a yellow/orange flame
  • Potassium (K) - produces a lilac flame

This coloured light can be split into a line…
