1) The Health and Safety Work Act:

This states that the employer needs to:

  • Provide training for all staff where needed.
  • Have all facilities up to standard.
  • Have all safety precautions in place.
  • Make the environment safe.
  • Have to have a health and safety policy.

The employee needs to:

  • Follow the health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Use the equipment properly.
  • Protect theirself and others in the environment.

2) Data Protection:

  • Keep clients details private/secure/confidential, e.g. in a locked cabinet, password on computer...
  • If a client leaves, keep details for 3-5 years.
  • Clients can have access to their records at any time.
  • Make sure the client consents, e.g. signs everything.

3) Fire Precaution Act:

  • Having a set escape/evacuation route if there is a fire and making sure all fire escapes are clear.
  • Fire alarms are fitted and tested.
  • Fire extinguishers.
  • Regular fire drill.
  • Training on equipment if provided.
