Gender representation:

Men and women are represented differently in language. Sexist language is language that insults or patronises someone based on their gender.

Quite often sexist language is about women. The language usually suggests the male version is the norm and the female version is inferior. This is shown by a use of a feminising suffix.

For example:

Actor > Actress

Comedian > Comedienne
