As plates move apart a tear (fissure/vent) is formed & magma rises up from the mantle moving through the crust/lithosphere

A fissure is a linear tear while a vent is more circular

The lava forms layers & solidifies to build up into a volcano

Ridge

Ridge = a long chain of underwater volcanoes & mountains

Chain has a central high wall like feature i.e. a ridge
