WHAT ARE THE THREE STAGES OF BIRTH?

  • The dilation of the cervix (the neck of the uterus)
  • The birth of the baby
  • The expulsion of the placenta

HORMONES - (progesterone, oestrogen, oxytocin and relaxin)

Towards the end of pregnancy, the concentration of progesterone in the blood falls, leading to the contraction of the myometrium.  Oestrogen levels rise.
