Krebs Cycle and Electron Transfer Chain

?

Krebs Cycle:

  • Acetyl co-enzyme A reacts with a 4 carbon compound molecule to form a 6 carbon molecule that enters the Krebs Cycle
  • Co-enzyme A is recycled to the Link reaction
    • in a series of oxidation / reduction reactions
    • reduced co-enzymes are produced
  • ATP is produced by substrate level phosphorylation
  • Carbon dioxide is lost (Carbon atom number goes down)

For each multiple of glucose, Krebs Cycle generates:

  • 4x carbon dioxide production by decarboxylation
  • 6x NADH produced by redox reactions
  • 2x FADH2 produced by redox reactions
  • 2x ATP produced by substrate level phosphorylation
