Study on 2 identical twin boys who were born in 1960, their mother died shortly after their birth and they failed to form an attachment. They were cared for in an institution for 1 year and then by their aunt for 6 months before their father remarried and they went to live with him and their stepmother, who beat them and locked them in a room. This continued for 5 years before they were rescued. 

They were age 7 with the developmental age of a 3 year old, they were small for their age and had rickets. They couldnt recognise pictures and so an IQ test was not possible. It was predicted that they would remain behind and wouldnt fully recover. They were also scared of the dark and other people.

They were fostered by two sisters who took exceptional care of
