Killer diseases

Diphtheria = Spread through tiny droplets when coughing or sneezing. This disease could relate to the previous ideas about the four humours because Phlegm (watery liquid when you sneeze or cough) was associated with winter and water. If there was too much phlegm the humours would be unbalanced. As the disease took such a long time to get rid of from the body, the unbalanced humours must have weighed one way dramatically if Hippocrates was correct.
