Research:
Milton Keynes (new town, Southern), Reading (Southern) & Hull (Northern)
Generally used children (4, 8, 12 years) of of equal genders & one caregiver (i.e. mother)
Milton Keynes & Reading have high social/geographical mobility & 'newcomers' from all social classes
Reading is more established, so the population is more stable
Hull is geographically isolated & more economically depressed
Hull is cut of by the River Humber (less attractive to commuters)
Closed social networks (largely working-class) (middle-class children from surrounding areas go to different schoolss)
Teenagers in Hull are often 3rd-generation locals
