Anticipation of what is to come in flashback with texts such as the Daughters of the late coloniol- there are a lot flashbacks in NW- the references to the time that has passed within the novekl- can see this a lot in the narrative of Keisha/ Nataile- thinking about when they were children

A lot of satire within the Daughters of the coloniol- towards the upper class 

Nw also explores socio- economic issues too- Leah- not really moving far away from where she lives 

Felix- not really moving away from where she lives

Felix- not really having much but can at least be happy or is happy

Nataile- climbed to the top of the food chain and still…
