Ireland - The Age of Nations
- 1903 - Abbey Theatre founded by William Butler Yates
- Influenced by fear of Ireland becoming British
- Patrick Pearce joined the IRB
- 1912 - Home Rule put forward
- Ulster volunteer force in 1913 challenged the state
- Irish volunteers and citizen army to protect the Home Rule
- 24th and 25th April 1914 ammunition brought and distributed across Ulster by Germany
- Following July Nationalists did trhe same and were caught out
- 30,000 Irishmen died in World War 1
- Fear of conscription in Ireland from Britain
- Easter Rising in 1916
- Rebels lead by Pearce and Connolly - took over GPO
- Proclamation read outside - announcing an Irish Republic (only around 20 were there to listen)
- British outnumbered the rebels 10-1
- The Fusiliers joined the fight
- Surrendered on April 29th
- Leaders taken to Kilmainham jail and sentenced to death
- Turned every one of them into martyrs because they died for the cause and this was a mistake made by the British
- British declared Marshall Law
- The volunteers eventually turned into the IRA (Irish Republican Army)
