Ionic Bonding

HideShow resource information

Mass Number: Total number of protons and electrons

Atomic Number: Total number of protons

Electrons = Protons

Ion: charged particle

NB: as long as the atom has not been chemically bonded, because the number of electrons will change.

Compound: atoms of two or more elements which have been chemically bonded together

Isotope: different atomic forms of the same element but with the same number of protons, but different numbers of neutrons.

  • Between non-metals and metals.
  • The non-metals gain electrons- negative charge (because there are more NEGATIVE electrons that the POSITIVE protons).
  • The metals lose electron - positive charge (because
