Ionic Equations

HideShow resource information

Ionic equations are used to model chemical changes involving ions.

An ion is an electrically charged particle. it is formed when an atom or group of atoms,                   loses or gains electrons.

In general:

  • hydrogen atoms and metal atoms los electrons to form positively charged ions
  • non-metal atoms gain electrons to form negatively charged ions.
