Halogenoalkanes
Halogenoalkanes - are compounds in which a halogen atom has replaced at least one of the hydrogen atoms in an alkane chain.
Used in refrigerators, aerosol propellants, degreasing agents and drycleaning solvents, however they are no longer used in aerosols because of their damaging effect on the ozone layer. Halogenoalkanes aare aslo important in organic synthesis and can be used to prepare many useful materials.
It has the general formula C H X, X represents the halogen atom.
Naming halogenoalkanes
- ...contain single binds, name based on alkane homologous series.
- The appropriate prefix is added to the name of the longest chain
- position of halogen on chain…
