What is Rio like?

Rio de Janeiro is situated on Brazil's Atlantic coast at 23°S and 43VW. It has grown up around a large natural bay called Guanabara Bay. Until 1960 Rio was the capital of Brazil - it is now Brasilia. It is the cultural capital of Brazil, with over 50 museums, and its famous annual carnial is one of the world's bggest music and dance celebrations. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The staging of the 2014 soccer World Cup and the 2016 Olympics have increased its global importance
