Prejudice against immigrants lead to the red scare
- There was predjudice against new immigrants groups and worries about communists entering the country. In 1919 the authorities used bombings to whip up a Red scare.
- During the red scare two italians were convicted of murder.
- From 1917 immigrants had to pass a literacy test to enter the country.
- A quota was introduced in 1921. This was replaced in 1924 with the national origins act which limited immigrants.
