CITES
- in 1943, 145 countries signed an agreement to control the trade in endangered species and any products from them, such as furs, skins and ivory
- more countries have joined since
- this agreement is called the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna, CITES for short
- CITES considers the evidence presented to it about endangered and vulnerable species and assigns them to one of three Appendices
