Rehabilitation of injury:

Rehabiliation-The process of restoring full physical function after an injury has occurred

1.EARLY STAGE-Gentle exercise encouraging damaged tissue to heal

2.MID STAGE-Progressive loading of connective tissues and bones to develop strength

3.LATE STAGE-Functional exercises and drills to ensure body is ready to return to training

TREATMENT METHODS:

STRETCHING:A form of physical exercise in which specific muscle or tendon is deliberately flexed or stretched in order to improve the muscle's elasticity & achieve comfortable muscle tone

ACUTE PHASE-No stretching,PRICE and complete rest

MID PHASE-Gentle static and pasive stretching have been proven to speed up recovery process

LATER PHASE-PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) stretches added to programme increased range of motion

LONG TERM-Active and dynamic stretching through a developmental stretching programme should be used,to increase range of motion & strength of connective tissues

MASSAGE:

Massage therapy-A physical therapy used for injury prevention and soft tissue injury treatment

Sports massage-A deep muscle therapy, realigning connective tissue fibres and flushing toxins from a damaged area

Sports massage can:

  • Move fluid and nutrients through damaged tissue to encourage healing
  • Stretch tissues,releasig tension and pressure,improving elasticity
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Reduce pain & generate heat, circulation and relaxation

COLD,HEAT AND CONTRAST THERAPIES:

Cold therapy (cryotherapy)-Applying ice or cold to an injury or after exercise for a therapeutic effect, such as reduced swelling

Heat therapy-Applying heat to an area before training for a therapeutic effect, such as increased blood flow

Contrast therapy-The use of alternate cold and heat for a therapeutic effect, such as increased blood flow

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS:

-Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs

This is medication taken to reduce inflammation, temperature and pain following injury, for example,IBUPROFEN

  • Acute soft injuries (such as sprains/strains/concussion) can be helped by taking pain relief as it helps
