Individuals of the Renaissance
Andreas Vesalius
Born in 1514 in Belgium. Studied medicine in Paris and Padua.
His specialism was anatomy.
As a teenager, he stole a corpse so he could study the body. He wrote a book called 'The Fabric of the Human Body' which contained accurate drawings of what the body looks like. Vesalius proved the human jaw was only one bone, correcting some of the mistakes of Galen.
His work on anatomy was hugely important however his work didn't actually improve people's health in the long term.
