In-School Processes

Schools Ethos- refers to the charcter, atomosphere or 'climate' of a school. For example, emphasis on academic/sporing/artistic ability; emphasis on equal opportunities... 

Hidden Curriclum - Students learn attitudes and values of the school ethos by participating in the daily routine of school life; things like punctuality, respect for authority, school rules, uniforms, school assemblies, prize giving, students standing in line, raising hands to answer questions, etc, instils certain values, attitudes and behaviours among students.

The ideal pupil (teacher sterotyping)- Becker (1971) suggests that 'ideal pupil' is set standards for judgement by teachers to sterotypes, Hempel- Jorgensen (2009) also states the 'ideal pupil' is based of charctersitists the teacher ashires to see in their students such as hard work and performing academically.

Labelling- In education, it is the teachers that have prejudicail thoughts about their students. Becker and Rist argue taht labelling happens because of the extent that the pupils conformed to middle class values and their social class; teachers idealize middle class students which Harvey and Slatin suggest to be because tecahers prefer white middle class students.
