To form the negative, we use ne...pas, and the verb goes in the middle. Be very careful because, du, de la, de l', des becomes de or d' after the negative. Also, be careful with il n'y a pas,e.g. even though the following sentence contains du fromage, it would be - mais il n'y a pas de/d'eau fromage.

When we talk about an opinion in french (of food or drink) we have to use an article (the). e.g. In English we say- i like fish, but in French we say- i like the fish. So the translation for- i like fish, is- J'aime le poisson.
