Impacts of global warming - Africa

Africa is steadily warming. It is 0.5 degrees higher than it was on 1900. This poses many problems for Africa.

Africa is a very vulnerable continent as it is an LEDC. It has a largely agricultural-based economy which relies on rainfall for its crops therefore if a drought occurs or if extreme flooding occurs then there is potential for Africa to lose most of its farmland. 



  • Competition for water will arise between countries in Africa as rainfall decreases which could result in conflicts
  • Fragile habitats may break down as they cannot withstand the increase in temperature and droughts
  • 20-50% of species in Africa could face extinction e.g elephants as their living space is shrinking due to an increase in human population - will…
