Impacts of urbanisation
- Overcrowding can occur where too many people live in one area, leading to a shortage of houses and jobs.
- Increased traffic, pollution and waste can all occur as a result of too many people living in one area
- In LICs, squatter settlements can be erected (badly built, illegal settlements found in and around the city). An example is in Mumbai, India
- Squatter settlements are overcrowded, so disease spreads quickly
- The population in rural areas falls due to rural-urban migration.
- The squatter settlements have no drains, therefore flooding is more common
- Fewer taxes are collected in rural areas to pay…
